A willingness to talk honesty--and have a well-deserved laugh--even when there is no 'sense' to be made from the squished-ness of our lives. It's a rare gift we need more of. More please, MP!!

Your mom’s living room “held together with cigarette ash and smoke.” My throat hurts just to read that! Your mom is lucky to have you and your brother, as so many seniors have no one at all. Just hope your mom is not a victim of scam…

Thank you, Leslie. And it’s funny you mentioned scams, because one of her last thoughts to us was: “I was thinking of taking out a reverse mortgage …” 🤯

Okay, I'll admit it. The best line for me was "Robbie Benson, OMG. ABC After School Specials."

But the whole thing is very relatable. My mother refused to renovate (or leave) her house - falling apart as it was - until she fell and laid on the floor for 5 days, after which she was hospitalized and then driven to her new home, an Assisted Living place. She had no wherewithal to complain at that point. But at least she was paying the bills (for the most part) up until then. There's got to be a way to deal with all this. Maybe, in Squished, you'll come up with a solution for future generations!

Happy Mother's Day!

Aw, yeah, omg — on the floor! I don't know if there will be any solutions...but hearing all the stories does help, I find.

This was the best Mother's Day read I never could have imagined!

Thanks for sharing the view from where you are, so beautifully. I'm taking notes! (Writing and otherwise.)
